Yarn Dances into Candy! My little pattern for Valentine Knitted Candy--which I call EVERLASTING SWEETNESS—follows. The "candy" can have beads (seed or up to 06) and can be made in any DK weight cotton, metallic, etc. Whatever you use, these candies will not go stale, will never appear on your hips but will always be there for you to know the sweetness of knitting a little love gift in "minutes!"
Materials:
approx. 20 yards of DK weight yarn in candy colors (yes, be sure to include CHOCOLATE!)
size 2-3 needles
beads are optional
little silk flowers or buttons are optional
Bon Bon Papers (1-inch)
Treat Boxes (Truffle size holds 2 Bon Bons)
Poly Stuffing (the kind you use for toys, etc.)
Darning needle
Sewing needle and thread –if you intend to sew a flower or button to the top of your bonbon
(NOTE: you can use embroidery thread OR split your yarn for sewing)
Gauge: approx 5.5 stitches to the inch but exactness not required --this is candy--you won't wear it---then again---!
To make:
Leaving a tail of about 6 inches, Cast on 9 stitches.
Row 1: Slip 1 stitch as if to purl; knit into F&B of next 7 sts, Knit into back of last stitch (16 stitches)
Row 2 Purl
Rows 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 : Knit (IF ADDING BEADS, ADD TO THESE ROWS--VARY WHICH STITCHES)
Rows 4, 6, 8, 10: Purl
Row 12: Purl 2 tog. ACROSS --8 stitches remain
Cut yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches.
Draw yarn through the 8 stitches and pull snug;
If using a silk flower, button or other ornament, sew it now to outside center.
Stuff the bonbon.
Sew bonbon closed with the yarn tails.
Put the bonbon in a little candy paper.
Pack bonbons in little truffle boxes or treat bags/boxes.
